Jackson County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Gainesboro .

The county is located northwest of the geographic center of Tennessee, is about 30 km to the north from Kentucky and has an area of 828 square kilometers, of which 28 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Clay County , Overton County , Putnam County , Smith County, and Macon County .
history
Jackson County was formed on November 6, 1801 from parts of Smith County. It was named after Andrew Jackson , the seventh US president .
Four buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 18, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Jackson County had 10,984 people in 4,466 households and 3,139 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.63 percent white, 0.15 percent African American, 0.34 percent Native American, 0.06 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.12 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.67 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.81 percent of the population.
Of the 4,466 households, 28.8 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 55.3 percent were married couples living together, 10.3 percent were single mothers, and 29.7 percent were non-families. 25.5 percent were single households and 10.2 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.43 and the average household size was 2.89 people.
22.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.8 percent between 18 and 24, 28.2 percent between 25 and 44, 26.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.0 percent were older than 65. The median age was 40 years. Statistically, there were 97.8 males for every 100 females and 94.9 males for every 100 females aged 18 and over.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 26,502 , and the median income for a family is $ 32,088. Males had a median income of $ 24,759 versus $ 19,511 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,020. 15.1 percent of families and 18.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
