Sevier County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Sevierville .

The county is located in east Tennessee, borders North Carolina and has an area of 1,113 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Jefferson County , Cocke County , Haywood County, North Carolina, Swain County, North Carolina, Blount County, and Knox County .
history
Sevier County was formed on September 28, 1794 from parts of Jefferson County. It was named after John Sevier , the sole governor of the State of Franklin (an amalgamation of 8 counties in Tennessee as a separate state), a member of the State Legislature and the House of Representatives of the United States and the first Governor of Tennessee.
Historical objects
In Harrisburg off US Highway 441 is the historic Harrisburg Covered Bridge , which was listed as a historic monument by the NRHP in 1975 (NRHP-ID 75001777).

According to the 2000 census , Sevier County had 71,170 people in 28,467 households and 20,837 families. The population density was 46 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.27 percent white, 0.56 percent African American, 0.32 percent Native American, 0.55 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.42 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.85 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.24 percent of the population.
Of the 28,467 households, 30.7 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 59.3 percent were married couples living together, 10.1 percent were single mothers, and 26.8 percent were non-families. 22.0 percent were single households and 7.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average household size was 2.88 people.
23.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.3 percent between 18 and 24, 29.8 percent between 25 and 44, 26.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.6 percent were older than 65. The mean age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 95.9 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 34,719 , and the median income for a family was $ 40,474. Males had a median income of $ 27,139 versus $ 20,646 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,064. 8.2 percent of families and 10.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
