Morgan County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Wartburg .

geography

The county is located in northeastern Tennessee, about 45 km north of Kentucky , and covers an area of ​​1,353 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Scott County , Anderson County , Roane County , Cumberland County, and Fentress County .

Localities

history

Morgan County was formed on October 14, 1817 from parts of Roane County. It was named after Daniel Morgan , an American pioneer, politician in the United States Congress and general in the American Revolutionary War .

RM Brooks General Store and Residence is one of the county's three listings on the NRHP.

Three buildings in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 26, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Morgan County had 19,757 people in 6,990 households and 5,235 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer.
