Knox County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Knoxville . On August 2, 2018, Glenn Jacobs, known internationally as wrestler Kane, was elected political director of the district as "county mayor" .

The county is located in northeastern Tennessee and has an area of 1,362 square kilometers, of which 45 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Union County , Grainger County , Jefferson County , Sevier County , Blount County , Loudon County , Roane County, and Anderson County .
history
Knox County was formed on June 11, 1792 from parts of Greene County and Hawkins County. It was named after Henry Knox , an artillery commander in the Continental Army and the United States' first Secretary of War .
One place in the county has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the William Blount Mansion . 109 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 18, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Knox County had 382,032 people in 157,872 households and 100,722 families. The population density was 290 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.10 percent white, 8.63 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 1.29 percent Asian, 0.03 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.50 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.18 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.26 percent of the population.
Of the 157,872 households, 28.5 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 49.8 percent were married couples living together, 10.9 percent were single mothers, and 36.2 percent were non-families. 29.6 percent were single households and 9.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.34 and the average household size was 2.92 people.
22.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 11.6 percent between 18 and 24, 30.4 percent between 25 and 44, 23.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.7 percent were older than 65. The mean age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 93.5 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 90.1 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 37,454 , and the median income for a family is $ 49,182. Males had a median income of $ 35,755 versus $ 25,140 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,875. 8.4 percent of families and 12.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
