Warren County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is McMinnville .

The county is east of the geographic center of Tennessee and covers an area of 1,124 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: DeKalb County , White County , Van Buren County , Sequatchie County , Grunby County , Coffee County, and Cannon County .

history

Warren County was formed on November 26, 1807 from parts of White County. It was named after Joseph Warren , the first American soldier to die in the American Revolutionary War .

The Philadelphia Church of Christ is one of the county's 21 entries in the NRHP.

According to the 2000 census , Warren County had 38,276 people in 15,181 households and 10,824 families. The population density was 34 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.66 percent white, 3.16 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.42 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.56 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.94 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 4.92 percent of the population.

Of the 15,181 households, 31.9 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 56.2 percent were married couples living together, 11.2 percent were single mothers, and 28.7 percent were non-families. 25.0 percent were single households and 10.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.47 and the average household size was 2.93 people.

24.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.1 percent between 18 and 24, 29.4 percent between 25 and 44, 23.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.9 percent were older than 65. The mean age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 96.5 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 94.7 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 30,920 , and the median income for a family is $ 37,835. Males had a median income of $ 28,409 versus $ 20,863 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,759. 13.0 percent of families and 16.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
