Jefferson County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Dandridge .

The county is located in northeast Tennessee, about 45 km from North Carolina in the southeast , and has an area of ​​814 square kilometers, of which 105 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Hamblen Counties , Cocke Counties , Sevier Counties , Knox Counties , and Grainger Counties .

history

Jefferson County was formed on June 11, 1792 from parts of Greene County and Hawkins County. It was named after Thomas Jefferson , the third US president .

According to the 2000 census , Jefferson County had 44,294 people in 17,155 households and 12,608 families. The population density was 62 inhabitants per square kilometer.
