Dickson County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Charlotte .

The county is located northwest of the geographic center of Tennessee, is about 50 km to the north from Kentucky and has an area of ​​1,272 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Montgomery County , Cheatham County , Williamson County , Hickman County , Humphreys County, and Houston Counties .

history

Dickson County was formed on October 25, 1803 from parts of Montgomery County and Robertson County. It was named after William Dickson , a friend of President Jackson , a doctor, member of the US Congress , speaker of the House of Representatives from Tennessee and from 1806 to 1816 board member of the University of Nashville .

The Promise Land School is one of the county's 22 entries in the NRHP.

According to the 2000 census , Dickson County had 43,156 people in 16,473 households and 12,173 families. The population density was 34 inhabitants per square kilometer.
