The Lichtenau Jewish Cemetery is located in the city of Lichtenau in the Paderborn district in North Rhine-Westphalia . As a Jewish cemetery , it is a listed building and has been entered in the list of monuments under monument number 10 since December 5, 1988 . In the cemetery on Simon-Archenhold-Straße, which was occupied from 1772 to 1938, 45 gravestones have been preserved.

Old Jewish Cemetery

There are no more gravestones in the old Jewish cemetery, which was formerly in front of the city wall in the area of ​​Glockenstrasse. This cemetery was occupied from the 17th century to around 1772. In 1920 it was sold to private individuals by the synagogue community . In the 1930s, some of the still existing gravestones were moved to the new cemetery in Lichtenau (see above), where they can no longer be found today.
