The Strasburg Jewish Cemetery in Strasburg (Uckermark) , in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , is a protected monument .

description

The cemetery is located on Bahnhofstrasse in the city forest on the so-called Sinai hill. In the 500 m² cemetery there are 19 tombstones . The burial place is surrounded by a wire fence. Jewish cemeteries were designated as burial places on the official maps and were signed with an L instead of a †. There is only a clear signature with an L and no inscription in the table sheet from 1880. Most of the time, the squares were laid out far outside the cities, mainly in the barn districts or similar remote locations. Here in Strasburg, the location between the Christian cemetery and the district court is a rare place. The old Christian cemetery was later abandoned and designed as a park.

history

According to MTB 1880, the cemetery dates from before 1880. It was probably not devastated during the Nazi era. At the end of June 2002, eleven tombstones were knocked over by strangers in the Jewish cemetery.
