Jewish cemetery (Zabrze)
The Jewish cemetery in Zabrze (German Hindenburg ), a town in the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland , was laid out in 1872.
history
Before that, the dead of the Jewish community in Zabrze were buried in the Jewish cemeteries in Beuthen or Gleiwitz . At the same time as the cemetery, a Tahara house was built , which was equipped with an apartment for the cemetery attendant. In the years 1894/95 and several times thereafter, the cemetery area was enlarged. The last burial took place in 1954.
Around 300 tombstones are still preserved in the 1.5 hectare cemetery . There is also a mass grave of prisoners from the Zabrze subcamp of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp on the site .
