Loštice Jewish cemetery

The Loštice Jewish Cemetery in the Moravian municipality of Loštice in the Czech Republic was established around 1544, and burials took place until 1942.
history
Most available sources assume that the cemetery was created in 1544 or is occupied that year. It covers an area of 6500 m² and there are about 650 tombstones , most of them made of sandstone .
The oldest identifiable tombstone is said to come from 1718, other sources give the year 1680. Most of the gravestones have Hebrew and German inscriptions, some of them also in Czech. The last burial took place in 1942, and according to one source, there were also burials after the Second World War .
According to some reports, a new Jewish cemetery was planned north of the synagogue in 1743, but there is no evidence that it was used.
The cemetery has been protected as a cultural monument since May 3, 1958 .
