The Katowice Jewish Cemetery was established in 1868 and is located at today's Kozielska Street.

history

The cemetery area was enlarged twice over the course of time, in 1927 and after the Second World War in 1945. Numerous personalities who were important for the urban development of Katowice - especially from the Goldstein, Grünfeld and Schalscha families - found their final resting place in the cemetery. The cemetery covers an area of ​​1.1 hectares . Many tombs were destroyed or damaged by the Germans during the war. A Holocaust memorial was erected on the cemetery grounds after the war .
