Jürg Michael Bucher (born August 2, 1947 ) is a Swiss manager . He headed today's PostFinance AG from 2003 to 2011 , as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Swiss Post from 2009 to 2012 and was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Valiant Holding & Bank AG from 2013 to 2020 .

Background and career

Bucher attended the Neufeld grammar school in Bern , studied economics and business administration at the University of Bern and later completed various additional training courses in management, controlling and corporate finance at home and abroad.

After graduating as lic.rer.pol in 1973, Bucher wrote as a freelance journalist in the areas of local, politics, business and sport and was involved as a research assistant in regional research and planning in Bern.

In 1976, Bucher joined the Swiss PTT (post, telephone and telegraph companies) and over time took on management responsibility at top management level in the areas of finance, controlling and corporate development. From 1993 he helped to prepare and implement the division of PTT into the new companies Swisscom and Swiss Post AG in 1998.

Between 1998 and 2011, Bucher led today's PostFinance AG, first as Deputy CEO and from 2003 as CEO, in its development from a payment transaction provider to a renowned retail bank in Switzerland. He had been a member of the Post Group Management since 2003 before taking over the operational management of the Post Group in 2009. After a phase of turbulent personnel changes at the top of the company, Bucher initiated a realignment of the group. The basis for this was a new legal basis. Post, PostFinance and PostBus became publicly owned stock corporations, and PostFinance AG received a banking license.

After resigning as CEO of Swiss Post in 2012, Bucher chaired the board of directors of the listed supraregional retail and SME bank Valiant. His tasks include the strategic and structural realignment of the bank after a crisis of several years with serious reputational damage.
