History and Development

Registered share of CHF 500 in the trade bank in Bern on February 25, 1909
Share over 500 francs in the Spar- & Leihkasse in Bern on March 1, 1930

Valiant was created in mid-1997 through the merger of the three regional banks Spar- & Leihkasse in Bern, Gewerbekasse in Bern and BB Bank Belp under a single holding company. To date, more than 40 banks have been united under the umbrella of Valiant Holding, the history of which dates back to the early 19th century.

Since 1997 Valiant has taken three pioneering growth steps:

  • Valiant was founded in 1997 through the merger of Spar- & Leihkasse in Bern, Gewerbekasse in Bern and BB Bank Belp.
  • In 2002 the mergers took place with KGS Sensebank, Lucerne Regiobank and IRB Interregio Bank.
  • Between 2008 and 2011 the mergers took place with Obersimmentalische Volksbank, Bank Jura Laufen, Spar + Leihkasse Steffisburg and Caisse d'épargne de Siviriez. In addition, during this period Valiant bought the asset manager Investas, opened six new branches, integrated two Banque de Dépots et de Gestion branches and announced the cooperation with PostFinance , the Triba Partner Bank and the Zürcher Kantonalbank .

At the end of 2011, the four subsidiary banks Valiant Bank, Banque Romande Valiant, Spar + Leihkasse Steffisburg and Valiant Privatbank were merged under the umbrella of Valiant Bank.

In March 2017, Valiant Holding AG and the Lucerne-based Triba Partner Bank AG announced that Valiant wanted to take over Triba. The purchase has now been completed. With the purchase of 36,741 additional Triba shares valued at 53.3 million francs, Valiant increased its stake in Triba from the original 30.6 percent to 97.4 percent. The Triba should have been fully integrated into Valiant by mid-2018.
