Jürg P. Rosenbusch (born May 23, 1938 in Zurich ) is a Swiss doctor and biochemist .

Life

Jürg P. Rosenbusch is a professor emeritus for microbial biochemistry. He studied medicine at the University of Zurich and received his doctorate in 1963. med. After postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School in Boston, he studied biochemistry and molecular biology at Harvard University , Cambridge, and graduated with a PhD in 1971. In 1972 he moved to the Biozentrum of the University of Basel . Here Rosenbusch researched and taught initially as an assistant and associate professor before he worked for three years as a senior scientist and program coordinator at EMBL Heidelberg in 1982 . In 1985 he returned to the Biozentrum in Basel , where he was appointed full professor. In 1998 Rosenbusch retired. Since then he has been involved in literary projects on the English Renaissance .

Act

Jürg P. Rosenbusch investigated the structure-function relationship of microbial membrane proteins . Thanks to highly ordered crystals , he and his group succeeded in clarifying the structure and functioning of membrane-based channel-forming proteins ( porins ), as well as receptors (siderophore and other receptor proteins of the outer membrane ) at the atomic level. A newly developed concept for the crystallization of membrane proteins (lipidic cubic phases) allowed the structural analysis of labile proteins, e.g. B. a light-driven proton pump ( bacteriorhodopsin ) and its application to myelin proteins and transport proteins ( multidrug resistance ).
