Jürgen Brand (lawyer, 1945)

Jürgen Brand (born April 12, 1945 in Detmold ) is a German lawyer. He was President of the State Social Court of North Rhine-Westphalia and Judge at the Constitutional Court for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

From 1964 to 1968 he studied law in Bonn and Münster. In 1968 he passed the first state examination in law. In 1972 he received his doctorate from the University of Cologne. In the same year he passed the second state examination in law. In 1973 he was appointed judge at the Social Court in Gelsenkirchen. In 1978 he came to the State Social Court of North Rhine-Westphalia as a judge. In 1990 he became President of the Dortmund Social Court and in 1997 President of the North Rhine-Westphalia Regional Social Court in Essen. 2010 resigned from office due to reaching the age limit. Since then he has been working as a lawyer in Hagen. From 2006 to 2012 he was an elected judge of the constitutional court for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia; since 2011 he has been the presiding judge at the Church Administrative Court of the Ev. Church in the Rhineland .

From 1997 to 2001 he was a lecturer at the Distance University in Hagen . Since 1986 he has been teaching at the German Lawyers ' Institute and the German Lawyers' Academy.

In 1969 he joined the SPD . From 2009 to 2012 he was sub-district chairman of the SPD in Hagen. After his election as sub-district chairman, Brand declared himself biased as a constitutional judge in the proceedings against the date of the local elections in 2009 and against the abolition of the runoff election for mayors and district administrators. He is the author and editor of numerous books on social law as well as co-editor of a specialist journal and was examiner for the second state examination in North Rhine-Westphalia until 2013. His law firm, founded in 2010, deals exclusively with social security law, with a focus on nationwide representation in matters relating to tax audits under social security law.
