Jürgen Fenner

Jürgen Fenner (* 1936 in Hamburg ; † February 25, 2006 in Soltau ) was a German administrative lawyer and non-party local politician .

Life

Fenner was born in Hamburg in 1936, from 1945 he grew up in Braunschweig . After graduating from high school and training in administration, he studied law in Göttingen and Berlin . He then worked for the Lüneburg district government for two years .

On June 1, 1971, he took over the post of City Director of the Lower Saxony city ​​of Soltau as the successor to Friedrich Peters and was thus head of the city administration. Both in the first election in 1971 and in the re-elections in 1983 and 1995, it was always unanimously confirmed by the council members. After 30 years in office, he retired on July 31, 2001. This ended the dual leadership of honorary mayor and full-time city director; both positions were combined in the mayor's post. During his tenure, he was involved in the urban development of Soltau, and his work still shapes the cityscape today. On Fenner's advice, the Freudenthal Society moved its headquarters from Rotenburg (Wümme) to Soltau.

From 1979 Fenner was a member of the planning and construction committee of the Lower Saxony Association of Cities and from 1987 to 2001 its chairman. From 1985 to 2001 he was a member of the building committee of the German Association of Cities .

After leaving the administration, he worked in his wife's law firm until shortly before his death. He died on February 25, 2006 after a brief, serious illness. He was buried in the Soltau city cemetery.
