Jürgen Kross (actually Hinrich Jürgen Kroß ; born August 26, 1937 in Hirschberg in the Riesengebirge , Lower Silesia Province ; † January 22, 2019 in Mainz ) was a German writer and bookseller .

life and work

Jürgen Kross, who lived in Mainz, worked as an independent bookseller. He wrote mostly poetry , which was published in numerous individual titles, anthologies and literary magazines. In addition, he emerged as the author of short stories , radio plays and short plays as well as co-editor of anthologies such as the Rhineland-Palatinate Yearbook for Literature. Jürgen Kross' poetry is characterized by rhythmic rigor. The entire lyrical work is conceived as a cycle of poems , the central theme of which is death . The poems can be viewed as a modern form of nature poetry . Human acts of violence, murders and suicides are a common theme in the narratives. The portrayal of the figures sometimes takes on grotesque features, which are also typical of Kross' dramatic works.
