Jürgen Molitor

Jürgen Molitor (* 1940 / 1941 in Osnabrück ) is a German basketball official and former players.

career

As a player, Molitor ran for his home club VfL Osnabrück at the beginning of the 1960s in the league, the top German division at the time.

Molitor was the managing director of the German Basketball Federation (DBB). As the head of competitive sports at DBB, he then managed the fate of the national teams; during his tenure, he won the bronze medal at the Universiade in 1989 and the European championship in 1993 . Shortly after the European Championship gold, his activity as head of competitive sports ended. He later criticized the missed opportunity to sustainably promote popular basketball in Germany in the wake of the euphoria created by the European championship title. After leaving DBB, he was manager of Bundesliga club Brandt Hagen in the mid-1990s .

In 2012, he founded the basketball division of TuSpo Bad Münder and, as a department head, took care of the development, worked as a trainer in the youth sector and worked closely with schools in basketball working groups.

In 1972 he was awarded the Silver Badge by the Lower Saxony Basketball Association and in 1983 the Golden Badge of Honor. In 2013 the German Basketball Association awarded Molitor the Golden Badge of Honor.
