Jürgen Ritte

Jürgen Ritte (* 1956 in Cologne ) is a German-French translator, literary critic, essayist and literary scholar. He is best known for his scientific, literary and journalistic work in the context of Franco-German relations.

Life

Jürgen Ritte studied German, Romance studies and art history in Cologne, Clermont-Ferrand, Naples, Brussels (ULB) and Paris IV, received his doctorate in Romance studies in Cologne in 1989 and completed his habilitation in German studies in Paris in 2007 .

As co-founder and Vice President of the German Marcel Proust Society (MPG), he has been on the academic advisory board there since 1988. Since 1999 he has been an elected member of the board of directors of the French translators' association Assises de la Traduction littéraire en ArleS (ATLAS), which presides over the Collège International des Traducteurs littéraires , Arles (CITL). Jürgen Ritte has u. a. Works by Edmond Jabès, Albert Cohen, Marcel Bénabou, Pierre MacOrlan, Olivier Rolin , Patrick Deville translated into German.

Since 1999 he has been the head of the postgraduate course Master de journalisme franco-allemand at the Sorbonne-Nouvelle ; and there since 2001/2002, in the successor of Hansgerd Schulte , head of the License d'Etudes franco-allemandes , which he supervised until 2012 as part of an excellence program for outstanding German and Romance studies tutored by the German Academic Exchange Service . He was director of the Institut d'Allemand d'Asnières and is now professor of German literature and intercultural studies in the Etudes germaniques department at the Université de la Sorbonne-Nouvelle - Paris 3 .

Ritte has been working as a critic for print media (including the Neue Zürcher Zeitung ) and various radio stations in the Federal Republic of Germany (such as for Deutschlandfunk and WDR ) and in Switzerland since 1982 . In 2003 Peter Ustinov published , after discussions with Harald Wieser and Ritte, Achtung! Prejudices (Hoffmann and Campe Verlag).

In 2013, Ritte received the Eugen Helmlé Translator Prize endowed with € 10,000 .
