Jürgen Schnell (2018)

Jürgen Schnell (born February 4, 1953 in Darmstadt ) is a German civil engineer, manager and university professor at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern .

Jürgen Schnell, son of the professor for technical mechanics at the TH Darmstadt Walter Schnell , studied civil engineering at the TH Darmstadt from 1972 until his diploma in 1979 . Then he worked with Philipp Holzmann in Frankfurt. From 1982 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Solid Construction at the TH Darmstadt with Gert König , where he received his doctorate in 1986 (for the dimensioning of reinforced concrete components for combined loads from load, prestressing and temperature constraints, taking into account temperature-dependent material laws at normal and low temperatures ). He then returned to Philipp Holzmann in Frankfurt as project manager for structural engineering in structural and industrial construction, was construction manager and then senior construction manager in the Duisburg branch from 1986, and from 1989 to 1994 head of the technical office in the Düsseldorf main branch with a focus on tunneling, civil engineering and structural hydraulic engineering. From 1994 to 1998 he was the head of the technical department at the headquarters in Frankfurt. In 1997 he became general representative of Philipp Holzmann AG and in 1998 chairman of the management of Philipp Holzmann Ingenieurgesellschaft für Bautechnik mbH.

In 2002 he took over the chair for solid construction and building construction at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern as the successor to Wieland Ramm . From 2008 he was also a member of the management of the Materials Testing Office at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern.

In 1985/86 he was also a lecturer at the TH Darmstadt (building physics in solid construction) and from 1991 to 2002 at the Ruhr University in Bochum (seamless construction).

In 2004 he became a test engineer for structural engineering and joined the engineering office borapa (founded by Wieland Ramm and Helmut Bode) as a partner. From 2008 he was a managing partner.

From 1995 to 1997 he was on the steering committee of the German Committee for Reinforced Concrete (DAfStb) and from 1992 to 1996 on the coordinating body of the European standardization committee for concrete CEN.

In 2017 he received the Emil Mörsch Memorial Medal and the Commemorative Medal of the TU Danzig. In 2020 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Ruhr University Bochum .
