Gert König (born October 2, 1934 in Leipzig ) is a German civil engineer and was a professor at the University of Leipzig and the TH Darmstadt .

Life

Gert König studied civil engineering at the TH Darmstadt until 1960 and received his doctorate there in 1966 under Alfred Mehmel and Hubert Beck on the topic of contribution to the calculation of bracing components of skeleton structures . In 1970 he completed his habilitation on the subject of the safety of suspended roofs .

In the following years he worked for the engineering firm BGS (Beck-Gravert-Schneider) in Frankfurt am Main until he took over the management of the Institute for Solid Construction at the TH Darmstadt in 1975 as the successor to Beck, who had died at the age of 45. In 1976 he founded the engineering office König und Heunisch in Frankfurt with Michael Heunisch.

In 1995 he returned to Leipzig after 20 years in Darmstadt to set up the Institute for Solid Construction and Building Material Technology at the University of Leipzig. Since 1997 he has been a member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig . He worked in Leipzig until his retirement in 2002.

Honors

  • Awarded the Emil Mörsch Memorial Medal from the German Concrete Association in 2001 for his special achievements in the field of concrete construction .
  • 2002 honorary citizen of the University of Leipzig. Gert König is the third person to be made an honorary citizen of the university.

  • In 2004, König was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Technical University of Darmstadt at the request of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy in recognition of "his outstanding scientific achievements in the field of structural engineering and his special services in research, teaching and further education".
