Konrad Zilch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Konrad Zilch (born August 28, 1944 in Friedewald ) is a German civil engineer and professor of solid construction and structural engineering.

Konrad Zilch studied civil engineering at the TH Darmstadt from 1964 to 1969 and was a research assistant at the chair for solid construction there from 1969 to 1971. In 1971 he was in an engineering office and from 1971 to 1973 at the University of California, Berkeley , the engineering office of Tung-Yen Lin in San Francisco and at the University of Western Ontario in Canada. From 1973 to 1979 he was back at the Institute for Solid Construction in Darmstadt, where he obtained his doctorate in 1976 (for calculating regular wind frames that are endangered by stability ). From 1979 to 1988 he was a senior employee in the construction industry, completed his habilitation in solid construction at the TH Darmstadt in 1982 and became professor for structural engineering at the RWTH Aachen in 1988 . From 1993 until his retirement in 2009 he was full professor for solid construction at the Technical University of Munich . There he was also a member of the management of the Building Materials Testing Office and the Laboratory for Structural Engineering.

In 2009 he received the Emil Mörsch Medal . In 2005 he received an honorary doctorate from the TU Darmstadt and in 2006 he received the VDI honorary plaque.
