River course
The Muketei River has its origin in a nameless lake at an altitude of 214 m , about 65 km east of Attawapiskat Lake . From there it initially flows 50 km northeast to Kitchie Lake . The Muketei River leaves this at its northern end. It flows 35 km north, then turns northeast for the next 100 km and finally east-southeast for the last 20 km. The Muketei River finally empties at a height of 102 m into the Attawapiskat River, which flows east, about 240 km above its mouth into James Bay. The approximately 3700 km² catchment area of the Muketei River borders in the east and south on that of the Attawapiskat River, in the west and in the north on that of the Ekwan River .
Hydrology
