The Ekwan River is a river in the Kenora District in the northwest of the Canadian province of Ontario .

The river flows about 500 km from Zumar Lake, located on the Canadian Shield , through the Hudson Bay lowland in a north-easterly direction, later in an easterly direction to its confluence with James Bay .

River course

The catchment area of ​​the Ekwan River borders on that of the Winisk River in the north and that of the Attawapiskat River in the south . The origin of the Ekwan River forms the Zumar Lake at an altitude of 239  m , 8 km northeast of the origin of the Attawapiskat River (its North Channel outflow from the Attawapiskat Lake ). The Ekwan River flows northeast over a series of rapids and waterfalls. The North Washagami River flows into it from the northeast . Then he turns to the southeast. The tributaries Matateto River , Crooked River and Little Ekwan River flow into it over a distance of 5 km. The river continues its course to the southeast continues and passes through the Flint Rapids at ( ) before the Akimiski Street and the James Bay achieved. Its mouth is across from the western tip of Akimiski Island , about 25 km north of the mouth of the Attawapiskat River.
