Walter Wetzel

Konrad Alois Siegmund Karl Walter Wetzel (born February 27, 1887 in Hanover , † April 17, 1978 in Kiel ) was a German geologist and paleontologist . He was a pioneer in micropalaeontology . His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " W. Wetzel ".

Life

Wetzel received his doctorate from the University of Göttingen in 1911 . From 1910 to 1914 he was an assistant at the Mineralogical Institute at the University of Kiel , then in 1915 for a short time in school and during the First World War he was a military geologist. In 1917 he completed his habilitation while on home leave. In 1922 he became an associate professor in Kiel. In 1951 he was visiting professor in Valdivia (Chile).

In addition to micropalaeontology, Wetzel also dealt with sedimentology, deposit research, mineralogy and geochemistry. As head of the Geological-Paleontological Working Group in Kiel, he also maintained contact with the public.

At the same time worked the pioneer of micropaleontology Otto Wetzel (1891–1971), who was a teacher in Eutin and also dealt with dinoflagellates. He is not related to Walter Wetzel.
