Jürgen Stohlmann

Jürgen Stohlmann (actually Juergen-Hinrich; * April 24, 1937 ; † November 30, 2011 ) was a German Middle Latin philologist and chairman of the Bergisches Geschichtsverein .

Life

Jürgen-Hinrich Stohlmann was born in the Ruhr area. His father, the political scientist Heinrich Stohlmann, was a teacher there and later for many years (1937–1968) director of the commercial school in Solingen.

Jürgen Stohlmann studied at the University of Cologne , where he received his doctorate in 1968. He taught in the Department of Middle Latin Philology at the Institute for Classical Studies at the University of Cologne. From 1981 to 1994 he chaired the Solingen department of the Bergisches Geschichtsverein and from 1994 to 2008 chaired the entire association. Stohlmann was the initiator and long-time editor of the Solingen association magazine “Die Heimat”. The Monument Protection Prize, which has been awarded since 1989, goes back to his suggestion.

After a long illness, Stohlmann did not die in his home town of Solingen in 2011, but he was buried in the Solingen Protestant cemetery on Kasinostraße.

Awards and honors

  • 1992: - Rhineland thaler from the Rhineland Regional Association for his commitment to monument protection and the culture and history of the Rhineland
  • 2005: - Honorary member and honorary chairman of the Solingen department of the history association for his special commitment as the initiator and longstanding editor of the publication "Die Heimat"
  • 2008: - Honorary member and honorary chairman of the entire association on the occasion of his resignation from its chairmanship
