The locomotives of the JŽ series 441 are electric locomotives for passenger and freight trains of the former Jugoslovenske Železnice (JŽ).
history
The JŽ tendered a four-axle locomotive design for their electrification program with 25 kV at 50 Hz . The 50 Hz Traction Union , consisting of ASEA , ELIN-Union and Sécheron for the electrical and SGP for the mechanical part, was awarded the contract. The JŽ series 441 is based on the Swedish series Rb , the arrangement of the driver's cabs on the left side and the operation of the driver's brake valves with the left hand was retained. The car bodies correspond to those of the Swedish Rc including the asymmetrical door arrangement. The door on the front right in the direction of travel leads to the driver's cab, the left one is moved further towards the center of the locomotive and leads to the engine room. Noticeable differences to the Swedish Rc are the block brake and the smooth side walls.
The first 54 locomotives were finally assembled at Simmering-Graz-Pauker, a further 50 locomotives of the first series were built under license from the Croatian company "Rade Končar" in cooperation with Mašinska industrija , TŽV Gredelj and Đuro Đaković . The SGP locomotives can be recognized by their significantly larger, cast factory plates. A total of 293 locomotives were delivered from 1967 to 1987.
When Yugoslavia fell apart, the locomotives were taken over by the railway administrations of the successor states. The Croatian HŽ introduced its own designation system with four-digit master numbers, the locomotives were given the series designation 1141. All other administrations retained the JŽ numbering plan, the serial numbers with the identification of the sub-series were retained.
As a result of the Bosnian War, the railways in Bosnia-Herzegovina were practically out of service for years in the 1990s. Thereupon the ŽFBH rented a large number of parked locomotives of the series 441 to the Turkish TCDD . She had this processed and classified it with the series designation E 52500 in her own designation system. Some of the locomotives were later returned for the resumption of railway operations, some of them still running in Turkish paint afterwards.
Another locomotive (1141 351) was built in 2017 by TŽV Gredelj from existing parts and is to be rented to a Croatian railway company.
