The Shenyang J-31 , also known as the FC-31 or J-35 , is a twin-engine, mid-size, fifth generation fighter under development by Shenyang , believed to be part of the J-XX program for the Air Force of the People's Republic of China should be built. The maiden flight took place on October 31, 2012. In November 2014, the machine was officially presented at the Zhuhai Air Show.

designation

The designation "J-31" has not yet been officially confirmed, but rather derived from the tactical number "31001". The type designations “J-21” or “F60” would also be possible. The latter was shown on a preliminary model presented at the end of 2011 .

description

In contrast to the J-20, the J-31 has no duck wings (canards). The double rudder unit is strongly angled outwards, the diamond-shaped air inlets are on the bow and are designed as "Diverterless Supersonic Inlet" (DSI). There is an internal weapon bay in the fuselage. Overall, the J-31 is smaller than the J-20. Outwardly it resembles a twin-engine version of the F-35 , which suggests a role in the expansion of the carrier-based air force. It is said that important construction plans of the F-35 for the construction of the J-31 are said to have been stolen, especially plans for the engines.
