With the Chronicles of Chaos and Order, JH Praßl publish a first fantasy epic made in Austria in eight volumes .

About 25 years ago, Heinz Praßl had the idea for the finale of a story that, although set in a high fantasy world, focuses on the human abyss in the context of political machinations. In the following years he developed the entire plot of the chronicles of chaos and order and brought it to life in the course of a pen & paper role-playing game . In 2001 Judith Praßl joined the role-playing group, whereupon the two authors began working together on the implementation of the fantasy series in 2006 - he as the inventor and designer of the story, she as the author. They married three years later. Today they are working intensively on updating the “Chronicles of Chaos and Order”, while the story game that began more than ten years ago is entering its final round in their Graz apartment. Only Heinz Praßl knows the finale of the epic himself. It has not been written down anywhere, and he has not told anyone about it for a quarter of a century - not even his co-author and wife.

Content of the fantasy series

With the appearance of mankind fifty thousand years ago, an eternal struggle began in Amalea between the forces of chaos and the forces of order. The escalation of the last Chaos Wars resulted in a victory for the followers of order. The gradual destruction of the chaos rule begins in the south of Ashran, where a mastermind on the chaos side initiates and promotes the self-destruction of the chaos and thus its own allies ...

In the year 340 after Fiorinde was founded, Amalea believes that chaos, i.e. evil, has been defeated. There is only one who sees the world with different eyes. He lives in the south of Amalea, is known for his host of assassins and orcs and is considered one of the most powerful followers of Chaos still alive. His name is Al'Jebal.

When the assassin Chara Pasiphae-Opoulos, the war priest Telos Malakin, the elf friend Thorn Gandir and the barbarian Bargh Barrowsøn swear allegiance to Al'Jebal for different reasons, they get deeper and deeper into their power struggle in the course of a last great war between chaos and order who control the fate of the world in secret. Little by little they uncover the origins of the world, humanity and magic and discover that the legendary Thanatans, an ancient magical people, are closely interwoven with the story of Amalea's creation. They walk on all paths - in light and darkness, between chaos and order, as murderers and lovers, as hunters and hunted ... and Al'Jebal accompanies and guides them to the end.

The novel cycle is unadorned and realistically narrated fantasy, which primarily addresses three things: self-perception, self-discovery and corruption of the individual in the field of tension of a great war between the forces of chaos and order. The narrative makes the gray area its topic, i.e. everything that remains unspoken within the filtered perception of a romanticized black and white perspective.

criticism

  • “Everything is demanded of the reader, he is given a glimpse into the depths of the human soul, including behavior in the face of death. It ranges from fatalism to anger, fear, disbelief, indifference to sheer horror. The Praßls are word artists, they deal with the German language with virtuosity and describe the experiences of the five main characters vividly and vividly. "
  • "Judith and Heinz Praßl serve the genre patterns perfectly" ( Robert Preis , Kleine Zeitung)
  • "Evolution as the high mass of dualism - great fantasy cinema: psychologically sophisticated, philosophically made strong and brought into reality with the passion of mythical warriorism." ( Klaus Middendorf )
  • "Fascinating fantasy made in Austria ... a journey that you know you will follow to the end as soon as you have taken the first step." (Marko Z. Kristin)
