JALTAM ( Hebrew ילת"מ, Acronym of Hebrew היחידה למשימות תת-מימיותJechida Lemesimot Tat-Memiyot, German  Underwater Task Force , unit 707 ) is a special unit of the Israeli Navy , as part of the Israeli Defense Forces . Unit 707 was founded in 1963 and later merged with members of the Schajetet 13 . In 1981 JALTAM was declared an independent special unit. It consists of divers for special operations and mechanical work who operate to a depth of 90 meters. These include use of divers , mine clearance divers , combat swimmers , Swim diver , boat diver and pioneer divers . Their duties include diving in Israeli ports to prevent enemies from entering. They also have to defuse mines under water. Incoming ships should be checked to ensure that no explosives or contraband are attached to them. Divers of the JALTAM unit help with the salvage of sunken ships and airplanes and carry out underwater maintenance work, also with the use of diving bells .

The unit uses speedboats that are specially designed to meet their needs and reach speeds of 50 knots or 92 kilometers per hour.
