The Israeli Navy ( Hebrew חיל הים הישראלי Cheil haJam haJisra'eli , English Israeli Sea Corps , abbreviated ISC ) is the naval force of the Defense Forces of the State of Israel .

The Navy of Israel ensures the territorial integrity of the sea and provides the naval component of the Israeli defense force in the main areas of operation: the Mediterranean Sea in the west and the Gulf of Aqaba in the south.

The fleet command of the Israeli Navy is in Tel Aviv , the Naval Academy in Haifa .
The navy consists of:
- Missile speedboat - flotilla with 13 units (according to local typing corvettes or speedboats )
- Submarine flotilla with five units (six in the course of 2020)
- Patrol boats
- Naval Intelligence Service
- Radar units
- Marinesonderkommando ( Schajetet 13 ; German "13th Flotilla") based in Atlit .
- Underwater response unit (base in Haifa)

helicopter
There will be five AS helicopters . 565MA Atalef in the 193rd Squadron used by the Navy. These are part of the Air Force , as they are flown, serviced and integrated into their command structure by its personnel.
Armaments project
The largest armaments project of the Israeli Navy are currently four corvettes of the Sa'ar-6 class (INS Magen , INS Oz , INS Atzmaut and INS Nitzachon ) currently under construction , which are to be built at the German Naval Yards in Kiel and are due to arrive from 2019 . Furthermore, in 2020 the submarine INS Drakon , formerly INS Dakar , will be the sixth unit and third boat of the 2nd construction lot of the Dolphin class . Three more boats from a 3rd construction lot are to replace the boats in the 1st construction lot at a later date, which will then be called the Dakar class .
Former weapon systems
A selection of former Israeli naval weapons systems:
- 2 destroyer British Z-Class: INS Eilat and INS Yaffo, in use 1955-1970.
- Two submarines of the Subtle class : INS Rahav and INS Tanin in use from 1958 to 1972.
- 3 T-Class : INS Dakar , INS Dolphin and INS Leviathan
- 3 Gal class submarines : INS Gal , INS Leviathan and INS Tekuma in use between December 1976 and October 2007.
- 12 speedboats of Sa'ar-1 class a total of 1967 to 1995 in use.
- 8 more speedboats of the Sa'ar-4 class were sold to other countries.

Special events were:
- On January 3, 2002, the Karine A , a Palestinian arms ship, was confiscated in international waters of the Red Sea. The ship was supposed to smuggle over 50 tons of weapons and explosives into the Gaza Strip.
- In July 2006, during the Lebanon War , the INS Hanit was hit by a missile launched by Hezbollah . Four sailors died. However, the ship was able to reach Israeli waters independently.
- In November 2009 the motor ship Francop , which belongs to the German shipping company Gerd Bartels, was boarded by a special naval command on the way to Cyprus and brought to an Israeli port. There were about 300 tons of hidden weapons on board (see Francop incident ).
- On May 31, 2010, the Israeli Navy boarded six ships loaded with relief supplies for the Gaza Strip in international waters that wanted to break the blockade of the Gaza Strip ( Ship-to-Gaza incident ).
- On March 15, 2011, the container ship Victoria, managed by the German Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG, was landed around 200 kilometers off the Israeli coast and diverted to Ashdod , where, among other things, mortar shells and six anti-ship missiles of the Nasr type were found in the containers. The armaments were supposed to be smuggled into the Gaza Strip via Egypt (see Victoria incident ).
