Jedidja Ja'ari ( Hebrew ידידיה יערי; Born June 30, 1947 ) is an Israeli Rear Admiral ( Aluf ). He was the 16th Commander in Chief of the Israeli Navy from 2000 to 2004 .

Life

In July 1969, when he was part of the Shayetet 13 Command Unit , he was seriously wounded and mistakenly pronounced dead during Operation Bulmus 6 , an attack on the fortified Green Island in the Gulf of Suez .

After retiring from active military service, Ja'ari worked for three years as a camera assistant at Herzliya Studios. During the Yom Kippur War , he rejoined the IDF . Ja'ari is a director of the military services company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Middle Eastern history from Haifa University and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University .

Ja'ari's father Aviezer Ja'ari was a general in the Israeli army, his grandfather Meir Ja'ari was chairman of the Mapam party. He has three children and lives in Merhavia .
