Eljezer Marom (* 1955 in Sde Eliezer , Israel ) is a Rear Admiral ( Aluf ) of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and was the 18th Commander in Chief of the Israeli Navy (ISC) from 2007 to 2011 .

biography

Marom was born as the son of a Chinese living in Germany and a Russian immigrant.

After attending school, he entered the navy and completed his training as a naval officer in 1975 with graduation . Then he found his first nautical use as an engineer officer. In the following years found uses as a reconnaissance, navigation and communication officer, commander of a gunboat and commodore of a gunboat squadron . Later he was Commodore of the Advanced Naval Command Course, then Head of the Operational Intelligence Department and finally Commodore of the gunboat flotilla .

In 1999 he was promoted to flotilla admiral ( Tat-Aluf ) and appointed commander of the Haifa naval base and at the same time of the naval forces in northern Israel ("North Arena"). In 2001 he was first head of naval operations and then in 2003 Chief of Staff of the Israeli Navy. Between 2004 and 2005, Marom was the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) representative at the United States Joint Forces Command . In August 2005 he was accredited as a military attaché at the Israeli embassy in Singapore .

On October 9, 2007, Marom was promoted to Rear Admiral (Aluf) and appointed Commander in Chief of the Navy to succeed David Ben Ba'ashat .

In addition to graduating from Navy's Advanced Command Course and the National Defense College, he also completed courses at the US Navy Senior International Defense Management Program (USNSIDMP) and at Harvard Business School . In addition, Eljezer Marom studied social sciences at the University of Haifa , which he completed with a Master of Arts .

Marom is married and has three children.
