Jem (born May 18, 1975 in Penarth, Wales ; actually Jemma Griffiths ) is a Welsh singer and songwriter .

biography

Jem graduated from the University of Sussex with a law degree . From 2002 she recorded the first demo versions of her songs at home, which were also played on the radio . Together with Guy Sigsworth she wrote the song Nothing Fails , which was later revised by Madonna and released in 2003 on their album American Life . She was signed to the ATO label , which released her EP It All Starts Here and later the album Finally Woken , which went platinum in the UK. In addition, her songs Come On Closer and 24 were used in advertisements for the films Hautnah (Closer) and Ultraviolet , but were not released on the accompanying soundtracks . Wish I was the theme song for the British reality TV series Celebrity Love Island . After the success of their first single They , which u. a. is played in the opening credits of the MTV format "The X-Effect", she released this in 2005 together with the album Finally Woken across Europe. They owe their success not least to the intro, a well-known interpretation of Bach's Prelude in F minor, BWV 881, by the Swingle Singers . In the winter of 2006 she contributed a song to the fantasy film Eragon with Once in Every Lifetime , and in the spring of 2008 she contributed the title It's Amazing to the soundtrack to Sex and the City .
