Jacinto Gimbernard

Jacinto Carlos Gimbernard Pellerano (born September 17, 1931 in Santo Domingo ; † May 24, 2017 ) was a Dominican violinist and writer , he was also a conductor for a short time .

Life

Jacinto Gimbernard had music lessons from Willy Kleimberg from the age of six and then studied with Ernesto Leroux and Danilo Belardinelli . At the age of thirteen he joined the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional as the second violinist , moved up to become the first violinist and finally became concertmaster of the orchestra. He held this position for more than thirty years.

In this function he performed violin concertos by Lalo , Glasunow , Mozart , Tchaikovsky , Beethoven , Bach , Bruch and others. At the opening of the Teatro Nacional he played the Poème for violin and orchestra by Ernest Chausson . From 1980 to 1984 he was director of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional . He also played in various chamber music formations.

He has performed in France, Germany, the USA, Puerto Rico and El Salvador, made radio recordings and taught at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música . Finally, he worked as director of the Fundación Corripio and program director of a daily educational program for the Ministry of Culture.

In addition, Gimbernard wrote numerous articles for magazines and historical writings. His Historia de Santo Domingo (1966) was used in school lessons for years. In addition to other historical and (music) didactic works, he also wrote literary works such as the novel Medalaganario (1980). Gimbernard was married to the pianist Miriam Ariza .
