Jack Herndon Brewer , nickname Buddy , (born April 21, 1918 in Los Angeles , California , † November 30, 2003 in Sun City , California) was an American baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB) in the position of pitcher .

Career

Brewers attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He made his first experience in professional baseball in 1940 with the New Jersey Giants in the International League , a league of minor league baseball (MiLB). For New Jersey, however, he only played four games during the season. In 1944, the right-handed pitcher made his MLB debut on July 15 against the Philadelphia Phillies . Brewer pitched an entire game, allowing only five opposing hits and one run . The Giants won the game 6 to 1. 1945 was to be Brewer's most successful year in MLB. This season he ran 28 times for the Giants, eight of which pitched the entire game, threw 49 strikeouts with an Earned Run Average (ERA) of 3.83. The 1946 season was Brewers last year in MLB, because he made his last game in the jersey of the Giants against the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 18, 1946 . In the game, he pitched two innings, allowing three hits and three runs. The game lost the Giants 1 to 8. Brewer then played until 1950 in the Triple-A with different teams.

Brewer died in Sun City, California, aged 85 and was buried in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside . In his MLB career he had nine wins , ten losses , 73 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.49 in 43 appearances and 216 23 pitched innings
