Sun City is a former census-designated place in Riverside County in the US state of California , United States . Together with the census-designated places Menifee, Quail Valley, Paloma Valley and parts of Romoland , Sun City was amalgamated on October 1, 2008 to form the City of Menifee .

Sun City was west of Riverside County in California , USA . The place had 17,773 inhabitants (status: 2000) and expanded to an area of ​​20.2 km². To the north was Perris . Interstate 215 was an important transport link .

history

The place was conceived as a planned city for residents over 55 years of age. It included two golf courses , two recreation centers with tennis courts and swimming pools, and a shopping center with small shops.

Sun City was built in 1960 along with three other Sun Citys in California. Sun Citys are retired cities created by Del Webb .

In the 1980s and 1990s, Sun City was able to benefit from the construction of the neighboring town of Menifee in the southeast. The area was still under development in 2005.

On June 3, 2008, the residents of the census-designated places Sun City, Menifee, Quail Valley, Paloma Valley and parts of Romoland decided to merge their hometowns to form the City of Menifee . This change is effective as of October 1, 2008.

Sun City was part of the 37th District in the California Senate , currently represented by Republican Mimi Walters, and the 65th District of the California State Assembly , represented by Democrat Sharon Quirk-Silva. Sun City also belonged to California's 49th Congressional District , which has a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R + 5 and is represented by Republican Darrell Issa .

The former Sun City, together with the entire Menifee Valley, represents a strictly conservative and republican region in the Southern California Inland Empire .

From 2001 to 2007, the Sun City area was badly hit by the real estate crisis in the US .
