Jack Gaylord
John "Jack" Gaylord (born June 20, 1896 , † July 21, 1984 in San Diego , California ) was an American film technician and special effects artist who was awarded an Oscar for technical merit at the 1952 Academy Awards .
Life
In 1939 Gaylord was involved in Victor Fleming's musical film The Wizard of Oz in the area of equipment and assisted in the area of special effects.
The Gaylord for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer , worked studios, Department Construction Department, was established in 1952 with a Technical Achievement Award awarded "for the development falling snow from balsa wood " ( "For the development of balsa falling snow").
