John "Jack" Gilbert Graham (born January 23, 1932 in Denver , Colorado , † January 11, 1957 in Cañon City , Colorado) was a mass murderer . Out of greed, he killed 44 people with a bomb aboard a United Air Lines flight .

A Douglas DC-6B was on flight UA629 on November 1, 1955 from what was then Stapleton International Airport ( Denver ) to Portland , Oregon . The flight captain was World War II veteran Lee Hall. Graham's mother was also on board. The motive for the assassination was a life insurance policy worth $ 37,500, which was purchased from a machine right before the start. Due to a flight delay, the explosive device detonated in hold 4 after 11 minutes over flat land instead of in the mountains as planned. Nobody survived the explosion.

Jack Gilbert Graham showed no remorse and was inconsistent. He was executed in the gas chamber of the Colorado State Penitentiary (" Colorado State Penitentiary ") in Cañon City, Colorado on January 11, 1957.

In the semi-documentary feature film The FBI Story ( The FBI Story ) (1959), directed by Mervyn LeRoy , the assassination was part of the plot. Graham was played in it by the actor Nick Adams .
