Jack Willis

Joshua "Jack" Willis (born April 15, 1920 in Galena (Illinois) ) is a former American jazz trumpeter (also cornet , mellophone ).

Willis played in Paul Gayten's rhythm and blues band in the 1950s . During his career he performed with the Original Tuxedo Jazz Band (with Albert French and Louis Barbarin ), in the New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra and with the Young Tuxedo , New Orleans All Star Marching Band and George Williams Brass Bands ; he also worked with George Lewis , with whom he was a guest at the 1957 Newport Jazz Festival . Willis participated in 25 recording sessions between 1951 and 1983.

Samuel Mc Neely wrote the poem Connoisseur's Cornetist in Willis' honor .
