Patrice Mestral
Patrice Mestral (* 7. August 1945 in Paris as Patrice Jean Serge Mestral ) is a French composer , conductor and pianist .
life and work
Patrice Mestral was born in Paris in 1945 as the son of the actor and singer Armand Mestral. He completed his musical training at the Paris Conservatory and at the École Normale de Musique in Paris . His works have been performed by the Ensemble intercontemporain , Ars Nova , the Domaine Musical , the orchestras of Radio France and the national orchestras.
His catalog of works includes 22 pieces for orchestra and choir, three concertos for orchestra and soloists, fourteen ensembles , ten pieces for chamber orchestra, twelve for instrumental concert , one piece for choral music a cappella, one opera, two musical theaters and two ballets. He was best known for his modern jazz compositions. He has also musically arranged more than 30 radio plays. He leads ensembles for contemporary music. In addition, he has created music for numerous films and television over a period of more than 40 years.
Under Mestral's direction and the musical advice of the musicologist François Porcile , mainly old film compositions by Maurice Jaubert were re-recorded for films by the French director François Truffaut . Mestral conducted the music for the following Truffaut films: 1975 The Story of Adèle H. , 1976 Pocket Money , 1977, The Man Who Loved Women and 1978 The Green Room . In 1980 he conducted the music for Claude Chabrol's film The Dream Horse and in 1999 the music for the war documentary The Children of Chabannes by Lisa Gossels and Dean Wetherell
In 1978 he composed the music for the film The Money of Others with Jean-Louis Trintignant and Catherine Deneuve by director Christian de Chalonge .
