life and career

Jackie Moran was discovered by the silent film legend Mary Pickford , who convinced his mother to go to Hollywood with him. He quickly got some good supporting roles, for example as the adopted child of Gladys George in the drama The Second Mother from 1936. He often played cheeky boys, including one of his best roles as Huckleberry Finn in Tom's Adventures (1938) based on the book by Mark Twain . The lavish color film was produced by David O. Selznick . A year later, Moran had a small supporting role in another Selznick production: In Gone with the Wind he played Phil Meade, the son of Dr. Meade ( Harry Davenport ). In the following years Moran got leading roles in a few smaller productions, which were primarily intended for young audiences. In several films he formed a youthful screen couple with Marcia Mae Jones . In the musical film Song of the Open Road from 1944 he played and sang the Oscar-nominated song Too Much in Love .

In 1946 he ended his acting career after receiving only supporting roles in B-films. In total, he was seen in around 35 films. According to his obituary in the New York Times , he later worked as a screenwriter and public relations work for the Catholic Church in Chicago. In 1984 Jackie Moran moved to Greenfield, Massachusetts, where he wrote Six Step House . He died of cancer in Greenfield Municipal Hospital at the age of 67.

Jackie Moran is often confused with the same actor who in the 1960s in two Exploitationfilmen of Russ Meyer occurred.
