Marcia Mae Jones

Marcia Mae Jones (born August 1, 1924 in Los Angeles , California , † September 2, 2007 in Woodland Hills , California) was an American film actress .

Life

Marcia Mae Jones' mother Freda Jones (1897–1976) was an actress. Marcia had three older siblings: Margaret, Macon, and Marvin, who also acted as children. But only Marcia Mae managed to have a successful career in front of the camera. She had her first role in 1926 at the age of two. In the 1930s she had minor supporting roles in large-scale productions such as The Garden of Allah and The Life of Emile Zola . In 1937 she was seen as the handicapped Klara Sesemann next to Shirley Temple in Heidi , two years later both girls appeared together in the film The Little Princess . She also formed a teenage screen couple with Jackie Moran in a number of B-films .

After Jones had made films primarily for Powerty Row studios in the 1940s, she retired for a few years in 1952 to raise her two sons from her first marriage. A second marriage with the screenwriter Bill Davenport (1925-1989), which was closed in 1955, failed because of his alcohol and drug problems. In the mid-1960s, Jones returned to the acting business, where she made guest roles on television series such as Cannon and The Streets of San Francisco . She also made several films, including Just How We Were from 1973. In 1983 she had her last role in a television production.

Jones died of pneumonia at the age of 83. She was survived by her two sons and several grandchildren.
