Jacob Angadiath

Jacob Angadiath (born October 26, 1945 in Periappuram , Kerala , India ) is the current Bishop of the Catholic Syro-Malabar Diocese of St. Thomas in Chicago (USA).

Life

The son of Ulahannan and Mariam Angadiath studied 1965-1972 as a seminarian at St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary Vadavathoor, Kottayam and received on January 5, 1972 in St. Mary's Church Lalam, Pala the priesthood . Until 1984 he worked as a pastor in India. From 1984 to 1999 he led the Syro-Malabar Catholic Mission in Dallas , Texas, and from 1999 to 2001 that in Chicago, Illinois.

On March 13, 2001, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of the newly founded Syro-Malabar Diocese of St. Thomas in Chicago and Apostolic Visitator for Canada . He was ordained episcopate on July 1, 2001, by the Major Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly , Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil CSSR ; Co- consecrators were Joseph Pallikaparampil , Bishop of Palai , and Kuriakose Kunnacherry , Bishop of Kottayam .
