Kuriakose Kunnacherry (born September 11, 1928 in Kaduthuruthy ; † June 14, 2017 ) was an Indian clergyman and Syro-Malabar Archbishop of Kottayam .

Life

Kuriakose Kunnacherry was ordained a priest for the Kottayam Eparchy on December 21, 1955 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 9, 1967 Coadjutor Bishop of Kottayam and Titular Bishop of Cephas . The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches , Maximilien de Fürstenberg , donated him episcopal ordination on February 24 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were Thomas Tharayil , Bishop of Kottayam, and Sebastian Vayalil , Bishop of Palai .

When Thomas Tharayils retired , he succeeded him on May 5, 1974 as Bishop of Kottayam. With the elevation to the Archeparch on May 12, 2005 he was by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Archbishop of Kottayam. On January 14, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
