Joseph John Gerry OSB (born September 12, 1928 in Millinocket ) is Old Bishop of Portland .

Life

Joseph John Gerry joined the Congregation of Benedictine at and received on 26 July 1959, the priestly ordination .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Praecausa and auxiliary bishop in Manchester on February 4, 1986 .

The Bishop of Manchester, Odore Joseph Gendron , ordained him bishop on April 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Ernest John Primeau , Bishop Emeritus of Manchester, and Robert Edward Mulvee , Bishop of Wilmington .

He was named Bishop of Portland on December 27, 1988 and inducted into the office on February 21 of the next year. On February 10, 2004, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
