Mathew Moolakkattu

Mathew Moolakkattu OSB ( Malayalam മാര്‍ മാത്യു മൂലക്കാട്ട് ; born February 27, 1953 in Uzhavoor ) is an Indian clergyman and Archbishop of Kottayam .

Life

Mathew Moolakkattu was ordained a priest on December 27, 1978 , joined the Benedictine order and made profession in 1994 . On November 6, 1998, John Paul II named him auxiliary bishop in Kottayam and titular bishop of Hólar .

He was ordained bishop by Pope John Paul II on January 6 of the next year; Co- consecrators were Giovanni Battista Re , substitute for the State Secretariat , and Francesco Monterisi , Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops and the College of Cardinals .

On August 29, 2003, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Kottayam. With the elevation to the archparchy on May 12, 2005 he was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Kottayam. After Kuriakose Kunnacherry's retirement , he succeeded him on January 14, 2006 as Archbishop of Kottayam.
