Jacob Braun

Jacob Braun (* in Lincoln / Massachusetts ) is an American cellist .

Braun studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Richard Aaron , at the New England Conservatory of Music and at Yale University . He was a founding member of the Biava Quartet , to which he belonged for nine years. With these he won the Naumburg Chamber Music Award (2003) and prizes at the London String Quartet Competition (2003), the Premio Paolo Borciani String Quartet Competition (2005), the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the Coleman Chamber Music Competition .

As a member of the Formosa Quartet , he performed on a three-week tour of England at Wigmore Hall , the Library of Congress and at La Jolla's Summerfest . In 2009 he became a member of the Penderecki String Quartet . Concert tours have taken him to Italy, France, Korea and China. He was artist in residence at Wilfrid Laurier University and has taught at the University of California, Santa Barbara , Chapman University and the Colburn Community School of Performing Arts . He also worked as a cellist on the soundtrack of several feature films.
