Jacob Lazarus

Jacob Lazarus (born July 15, 1819 in Hamburg ; † May 27, 1882 ibid) was a Hamburg lawyer and politician.

Life

Lazarus studied law in Berlin and Heidelberg. He became a member of the Corps Hanseatia Berlin and in 1841 of the Corps Hanseatia Heidelberg. It was 1842 in Heidelberg to the Dr. PhD in both rights. In 1842 Lazarus tried to be admitted to the bar in Hamburg; as he was unable to obtain citizenship in Hamburg due to his Jewish faith, his application was rejected. He worked as a lawyer in Hamburg from 1842. After the Council of the City of Hamburg in the on 21 February 1849 Paulskirchenverfassung transposed fundamental freedoms granted in inner-city law, Lazarus was on March 19, 1849 in Hamburg as a lawyer admitted; he was registered as such until his death. Lazarus was a member of the Hamburg Constituent Assembly from 1848–1849 . When military clashes with Denmark (the Schleswig-Holstein War ) began in 1848 as part of the March Revolution , Lazarus volunteered and was taken prisoner by Denmark. From 1875 until his death Lazarus belonged to the Hamburg citizenship , he was a member of the parliamentary group of the Left Center . From 1871 to 1877 he worked as a school caretaker.

Lazarus was born with Emma Schiff (1834–1904) married, who called herself Henriette in Hamburg and who frequented Gustav Mahler's salon during his time in Hamburg. The art collector Emma Budge was his niece, the lawyer Leo Lippmann his great-nephew.
